Employee Retention for Manufacturers

Employee Retention for Manufacturers

In today's world, we are accustomed to convenience and simplicity in solving problems. But when it comes to solving the manufacturing workforce crisis, there is no easy solution. E-commerce platforms, ridesharing apps, or same-day delivery services add a level of difficulty and complexity when it comes to recruiting and retaining the manufacturing workers. To address this issue, manufacturers must focus on long-term, systemic changes that will help them become employers of choice.

The state of Nevada has several programs aimed at supporting the manufacturing industry and promoting workforce development, such as the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development (GOED) and the support we can offer as the state's National MEP center, Manufacture Nevada. There is an abundance of training and educational opportunities available to workers, as well as grants and incentives available to Nevada manufacturers that can support growth and innovation of our workforce.

Nevada has several institutions of higher education that offer degree programs and training courses specifically geared towards the manufacturing industry, such as the College of Southern Nevada's Advanced Manufacturing Program and the University of Nevada, Reno's Materials Science and Engineering Program. Getting involved and connected with these programs can be a great way to foster workforce.

Our world has changed dramatically over the past two-and-a-half years. And so have the needs, desires and expectations of the people you hope to hire and retain. If you haven’t tried to understand how these changes affect your people and their satisfaction with their overall work experience, now would be a really good time to do so.

To help organizations of all kinds improve their ability to recruit and retain great workers, the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program and the U.S. Department of Commerce, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Labor and around 60 industry representatives, developed the Job Quality Toolkit.

If you are a manufacturer and would like assistance in using the Job Quality Toolkit or connecting with our workforce development partners and programs, reach out to our team of business advisors.
